So, has anyone read this book/series? Any opinions on it? Most places, it is usually the subject of much controversy, and I know people think it's awful as well as people who love it, as well as people who think it's awful but *still* enjoy it. Still, its sold millions of copies.

I am mostly in the third category myself... and even though I'm sure Christopher Paolini has grown as a writer since the first one was written, I still think I liked the first one best. (And possibly the second one second best.)

I've seen the Eragon movie as well. I like it fairly, but this book (or movie) is not my favorite. I just haven't enjoyed it. That's all. My opinion ^^

I saw the movie too. I think most people (even those who enjoyed the book) thought it was pretty bad.

It isn't my favorite book either, but I did have fun reading the first one (and to some extent the second one). I kind of like the world it's set in, even though it's basically copied from LOTR and other fantasy novels...

My opinion is similar to FairyFruit's. Eragon was somewhat fun to read, as was Eldest, but I would never call them well-written.

I've only read the first third of Brisingr. I intend to finish it someday, but I kept getting bored with it and it had to go back to the library.

I actually liked Eragon a lot. I mean it's not great writing, but I enjoyed reading it a lot, and that's the main thing I look for in a book.

I agree with MithrilBox for the most part. It's not the greatest book I've ever read, but I did enjoy reading it. So far, however, I've only read Eragon and Eldest... I do intend on reading Brisingr, but when I buy it, I want to have it in the same edition as the first two. I bought them in a different edition that looked cooler, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I haven't found Brisingr in that version just yet. I hope I still do, because I really do want to own any series in the same edition.

I'm not sure about the movie, however. If I hadn't read the book, I suppose I might have liked it slightly better. There are too many differences in the movie if you ask me.

You could check it out multiple times from the library, like I've been doing, heh. It's funny, I keep thinking that I feel like reading it, and then when I have it in my hands there are always half a dozen other books that seem more interesting. But yeah. I'll get through it eventually.

I wonder when the final book in the series is going to be done.

Hehe, there is a downside to getting it from the library, though... I live in Belgium... Books in the libraries here are usually translations into Dutch (in my part of Belgium, at least). I prefer to read in English though. Or rather, I prefer to read a book in its original language, as far as I know that language off course, but anyways, most books I wanted to read seemed to be originally in English. That's why I usually buy books instead of getting them from the library. :p

Oh, that's too bad. :( It's hard to imagine buying every book I wanted to read... I'd probably spend a ridiculous amount of money on it. And I would have trouble knowing for sure if I wanted to read something until after I already had it in my hands.

It's a slow process, for sure. I'm not decadently rich so I have to spread it a bit. Luckily, I also don't have as much time for reading anymore as I used to have, so it equals out, sort of.
But I'd love to have my own little private library, so I don't mind buying the books. And they're usually pocket versions anyway because they're easier to fit in my handbag. Pockets are lots cheaper than hardcovers, and I can lug them along every day when I go to work. I read during my daily train ride.

Do need a second bookcase, though... My current one's more or less full.
