From the MarketSaw blog (http://marketsaw.blogspot.com/2009/06/3ality-digital-ceo-steve-schklair-talks.html):
Steve’s passion for achieving the best possible 3D experiences for his audiences is infectious, and I learned a great deal from speaking with him. He also gave me the exclusive scoop that Peter Jackson is committing to shoot all his films in 3D, and will be working with 3ality Digital’s rigs and technology to do so. I assume that The Hobbit is more of a Guillermo del Toro film than a Peter Jackson one. Still, from the Empire magazine scans (http://www.hobbitforums.com/showthread.php?t=42) that were posted a few months ago, it sounds like they haven't made a decision either way yet.
I'm hoping they don't end up doing it. To have the two Hobbit movies suddenly be in 3D wouldn't be consistent with the trilogy - and the technology is so new that it does feel like a gimmick to me. I've been watching films in 2D for a really long time; I don't see any particularly compelling reason to switch now.
What do you think?
