The thread for Chapter 1 can be found here (http://www.hobbitforums.com/showthread.php?t=63).
To me, the second chapter seems more straightforward to adapt than the first. It starts with Bilbo and the dwarves setting off, although, giving the filmmaker's desire to move the story forward and the time constraints they have, I imagine they may skip having Bilbo think the dwarves left without him.
They travel a considerable distance in the chapter, compared to how long it takes them to get through the Lone-lands in the Fellowship of the Ring (in the book and movie both, but particularly the book). Seemingly they "passed through hobbit-lands," then "came to lands where people spoke strangely, and sang songs Bilbo had never heard," and finally "had gone on far into the Lone-lands" - all in the same day.
I'm not sure how they plan to show their progress or whether they're going to skip a large portion of the journey (as they did in FOTR), although I would hope they dedicate at least a little time to showing all the beautiful scenery. This also might be a good opportunity for them to start developing some of the dwarves' personalities.
Then Gandalf goes missing, the wind picks up, it's raining, they can't start a fire - and they see a light on the hills, which Bilbo is sent to investigate. And then we have the troll scene, which is probably the most significant part of the chapter and is also, I think, virtually certain to appear in the movie.
I think the trolls would work well without much change from the book (though they probably won't want the dwarves to come along one by one). It's always possible that they would do something weird like having several of the dwarves stay behind with the supplies, or help Gandalf with making mysterious voices.
It would be neat if they tried to make the area match the troll's clearing from The Fellowship of the Ring, so viewers could have the sense that it's the same place - although personally I always imagined it with more pine trees and less ferns. (I attached a pic of it.)
I don't have a specific list of questions this time. But feel free to add your thoughts on anything I said or on the chapter in general. :)
