This is a couple days old, but it looks like there will be an expansion of some sort later this year that includes a level cap increase, southern Mirkwood and Dol Guldur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dol_Guldur) (Sauron's stronghold in Mirkwood, first mentioned in The Hobbit as "the dungeons of the necromancer").
I'm not sure if my LOTRO character will ever get to a high enough level to enter the Mines of Moria, let alone Mirkwood, but it definitely sounds like an interesting place to explore. I've always liked the idea of dark, twisting forests, and this might make up for how small the Old Forest seemed in the game (compared to how it was in the books).
I imagine Fangorn and Rohan would come next, possibly Gondor after that, but as MithrilBox was saying in the other LOTRO thread, this could easily set them up to do northern Mirkwood and The Lonely Mountain at some point in the future.
