Wow! Thanks for posting these. I just got finished reading the whole thing.
I'd no idea before that they hadn't started actually writing the script yet... or that they hadn't started casting or thinking about locations. But this is definitely very exciting, and just the sort of information I was hoping we'd get, and I like the way they seem to be going with all the creative decisions they mentioned. (Except the 3d thing - I hope they don't do it in 3d.)
I love this news-posting habit of yours, by the way. :)

There is also a great picture from the same issue with Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen posing with a sword! I would scan but alas, I don't possess a scanner!

YES.
Anyway, I like how they're going to remain true to the spirit of the books and make The Hobbit a bit lighter than LOTR...

"in the Hobbit it's part of the book that trolls have lengthy conversations. There are other idiosyncrasies that would not find themselves at home tonally in the trilogy. But we are moving the notches a bit."
"The beauty of the Hobbit is that, ultimately, the point of view is a smaller adventure in a very rich world."
I approve. :D It sounds like it's going to be an amazing adaption, and I love how they're trying to capture the essence of the book rather than copy what they did with LOTR.

I find it a bit funny that we got the rest of the scans over a week before them, though. :)
