Personally my favorite place in all of Middle Earth is The Shire! I am without an ounce of doubt, a creature of comfort. I long for the cozy, and the familiar. I would absolutely love to spend my days lounging about in my Hobbit Hole. Reading books, having good conversation with my fellow Hobbits, enjoying the calm, quiet life, and eating mounds of delicious food. : )

I would like to stay in Hobbiton because of the same reason as you mentioned..I could live for long time in Rivendell, as it is a place to laugh, entertain but also dream, learn and expierience good things..but I am the most fond of Lorien and Ithilien - probably because of their descriptions from the book..I would love to walk between trees and meadows there and listen to the wind that tells odl, forgtten stories about those places..

The Shire is one of my favorite places as well, for the reasons you mentioned. Like Bilbo and Frodo, I might eventually start longing for mountains, but I could always go wandering for a while and return.

Rivendale is nice too though, and you wouldn't have to wander as far to get to the mountains. :)

It is always a really tough choice between Rivendell and Lothlórien for me... But, while Lórien is very Faery-ish, Rivendell is probably more a place I'd want to live permanently.
Other than the Lord of the Rings places, Gondolin has always appealed to me as well.

Interesting question :)

For me, I would have to say Rohan. The reason for this is because the Rohirrim are my favourite group of people throughout the Ages of Arda. I find them very appealing because of their honesty, and I admire them for their ability to sacrifice. I also find the Rohirric way of life very interesting- living on open plains in a world with few restrictions and rules, amongst the all-important horses sounds- to me- like the perfect lifestyle, in an inexplicable way.

This is a feeling I get also when I read about Viking history, or often the history of the Saxons and Celts, all of whom played a defining role in creating the Rohirrim. Yet whenever I read about the history of Gondor, I find that some kind of cold, dead, cruel air surrounds it- a feeling I often associate with the kind of aura that surrounds Roman, or perhaps Greek history.

My second choice would be Eryn Galen- the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood have always been different to all the other Elves, and hence I was immediately drawn to them. I would never mind Doriath either ;)

Another for the Shire here. I love the Hobbit's lifestyle, relaxed, quiet, and plenty of ale and mushrooms!
