View Full Version : So - if not Peter Jackson, who?

I'm referring, of course, to the director of the Hobbit movies, now that Guillermo del Toro will not be doing it.

I'd prefer Peter Jackson do it himself (as I think a lot of fans would), because I liked what he did with the trilogy. But what if he can't? Who else would you like to see?

Personally, I've been trying to think of a few names and haven't been able to come up with much. There aren't many directors whose work I consistently like, and fewer still who would fit with the style of the Hobbit.

There was an article on movieweb.com that MGM are trying to get PJ to direct it, personally I want him to - I think he has the best understanding how to bring it towards the big screen.

I agree - I was just wondering what the best option would be assuming we can't have him. :)

A new story here: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/06/18/37113-is-neill-blomkamp-the-next-hobbit-director-maybe/ says that Peter Jackson doesn't want to do it, though the studio is indeed trying to get him to, and it would be nice if they succeeded. It also mentions Neill Blomkamp (of District 9) as a likely director.

Hmm... I do wish Peter Jackson would do it. But if he won't I suppose Neill Blomkamp would be about as good as anyone and I'm glad its not someone like Sam Raimi (or for that matter any of the "superhero movie" directors). I haven't seen District 9 yet, but I'm going to when I have time now.

Hmm, I have no idea who I'd like to direct The Hobbit if not Peter Jackon... But if I have to pick someone, I'd think of someone who has directed fantasy movies before. For example, whoever did Chronicles of Narnia, or The Golden Compass, perhaps?

Chris Columbus, the dude who directed the first Harry Potter movie. He seems to have a certain way with fantasy, at least I liked how it was compared to the book :)

Since The Hobbit is a book, I think it's safe to say that Uwe Boll won't get his hand on this... that would be murder. * shudder*
