This (http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/05/30/36920-guillermo-del-toro-departs-the-hobbit/) was pretty shocking to me.
I mean, he's been so involved in the preproduction stuff so far, and we've heard a lot about his plans for the movie over the past few years (for instance the stuff about Smaug's design, or how talking animals are handled). Who knows how much of this will change?
I suppose a lot of us won't know what to think of this until they announce who is replacing him.

I feel sad for him, actually. It's like it's mentioned in the article: he's lived and breathed the Hobbit for so long, and now he has to stop before it's even finished. Sounds like a very hard thing to do.
And I had only just gotten used to the idea it was not going to be Peter Jackson directing... Now who knows who we're going to get? As long as they keep true to Tolkien's work AND to the style of the previous movies, I supposse it may not matter that much.

I have already read that news..well, I am not surprise as some people patience is limited..I am just wondering if Jackson will be allowed to use some of del Torro ideas...anyway, it probably mean more delayes and we won't see the film soon...
I think if it comes to it Jackson will take the directors chair, I feel sorry for Del - he put so much hard work into the movie.

That's kind of sad, I was hoping for a darker Hobbit, along the lines of Pan's Labyrinth, rather than a more brightly colored or childish one. Hopefully whoever takes over will get to use and build on his ideas. Even though it wasn't going to be Peter Jackson doing the Hobbit, del Toro still seemed like a good fit to me. I'm anxious to see who ends up replacing him.

Last time I read somewhere that P.Jackson himself will be the director...it's ok for me as I know what we can expect..however I wish he will be allowed to use some of del Torro ideas anyway.

Sowen: From what I've heard, Peter Jackson has said that he will direct if it's necessary, but they still might find someone else (since Peter Jackson has signed contracts to do other films that it could be hard to get out of). But I definitely hope it is him. And I'm pretty sure it has been said that the new director can use all of del Toro's ideas (if they want to).
Anyway, I also wish that we could have seen what Guillermo del Toro would have done with the project as a director... but I don't feel especially bad for him, simply because it was his choice. The movies have been delayed for longer than we expected, but he could have waited if he wanted to.

I seriously hope Peter is going to direct it... After all, we know he'll do a great job. :D

Reading all the news today, it sounds like there just may be a chance that he will!!
Of course the articles could be speculation. And even if there are talks they could come to nothing. And I shouldn't get my hopes up because I dont want to be disappointed. But its hard not to be super excited about this possibility. Although I would have loved to see what Del Toro could have done, in some ways Peter would be even better because he did the trilogy.

Yeah, I think Peter Jackson may actually do a better job. I really liked what he did for the trilogy, and I didn't really like some of the ideas that Guillermo del Toro came up with - it was just a little surprising to have him quit after expecting him to direct for several years.
I'm also excited about Howard Shore returning. It'll be nice to have a consistency in the music.
