On The Hobbit front, I'm told that both scripts are in, that discussions are underway right now to determine if they'll shoot in 3D. (I think it's inevitable). They will set everything in place in a New Zealand powwow next month, and then casting will begin for a November start. As for the King Kong attraction that's based on Jackson's 2005 film, he'll tell you himself.

A November 2010 start date would almost certainly mean that the first movie couldn't come out until 2012... right? Anyway, it's nice to have an update on what's happening, since it was previously believed that they would have started filming by now. :)

Indeed. :) New article today, though: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/05/27/36763-hobbit-greenlight-not-so-fast/ I missed the excitement about the greenlight that turned out to be fake, but it does seem to confirm that November is likely and that 3D is looking less likely.

Oooh, I like that last bit. I'd be willing to put my money on 3D fading in popularity in the next 2 to 3 years. I feel like people will be unwilling to see every movie with 3D glasses on. Or watch tv with 3D glasses on. The novelty will wear off, imho.
I wear glasses so nothing new to me :D

Aaaw, on the one hand, I feel sorry that this is most likely going to mean a delay, but on the other hand, it IS good that they are not rushing it just to be able to have the movies ready.
And the Hobbit not being in 3D most likely, must be the very best rumour so far, as well. It's not that I have anything against 3D, but they'd look and feel too different from The Lord of the Rings, and I'd like that to happen. And generally, this is what I had already been thinking about as well:
I feel like people will be unwilling to see every movie with 3D glasses on. Or watch tv with 3D glasses on.
Personally, I am indeed opposed to the idea of needing those ludicrous looking, oversized 3D glasses to watch movies all the time. I don't mind once in a while, but not every single movie out there, please.
