Pretty interesting article. I wish New Line was still around, as it sounds like they would have done a much better job of it. But hopefully we'll actually get to see all these new things someday, and hopefully when we do it'll be just as good as the original plans for it sound.

Also: I'm pretty shocked that there was a time when they didn't know if there would be a Return of the King extended edition. How could they not have one? Especially since there was that scene with Saruman in the beginning - it was intended for the end of the second movie, then moved to the beginning of the third, then cut completely and saved for the extended edition (which I remember Christopher Lee was not happy about). The fans would have been pretty annoyed if they never got to see it at all.

I was reading that too. I've actually wondered why there are no outtakes in the original dvds since there are almost certainly lots of good ones.... but this would explain it.

I didn't notice the absence of details about the actor's lives during the filming as much. Though, when I think about it, there must be much more than we've ever seen.

I'd also be really excited about that documentary by Peter Jackson that they mentioned. I hope it gets made someday
