I was wondering your opinion about it?
In GB or US it is a big thing. Everyone is talking about actors, trailers and everything else conected to Twighliht. I am wondering about Tolkien fans opinion as the world, plot and the book language is so different from Tolkien...

I assume you mean Twilight. I edited the title of your post so no one is confused. :)
Anyway, I have read the series, though I had a lot of problems with the topic, plot and style. I definitely don't think it can be compared to Tolkien.

I have to admit, firstly, that I never actually read one of the Twilight books. Wanted to go and see the movie at the time, before I even know it was based upon a book, but never got around to it.
Judging from all I've heard about it, though, from people that have read it and are fellow vampirelovers like me, I know for certain these books are not for me. And not only because they're listed as teenage novels and I'm not a teenager anymore since almost two decades.
I've always had somewhat of an obsession for anything that has to do with vampires. The idea has intrigued me ever since my youth, my childhood even. But for me, the only true vampires are the ones Anne Rice used to write about. Those are the ones far enough from the old clichés, but not too far away from them either, to be believable. They're dark, and sensual, and deadly.
Seriously... Vampires are creatures of the night, and should NOT walk around in broad daylight, and most certainly they should not glitter like disco-balls in the sunlight. For me, it all sounds like absolute blasphemy.
Just as a side-note, I highly disliked Bram Stoker's Dracula as well. It was waaaay too corny and mellow for my taste.
Meanwhile, I did see the movie-version. Could buy it cheap along with a magazine I read. It has its good moments, even I have to admit that. But I'm not even going to keep the movie. The pace of the movie was too slow and, as I mentioned, I really am not fond of the entire idea about what vampires are supposedly like.
I'm positive that my teenage sister will love it, so I'm going to give it to her.
But ah well... Tastes differ.

thanks Emmie - feel free to corect any of my mistakes:)
What can I say about the topic - it can not definitely be compare to Tolkien although I have heard people who think Meyer is better - sacrelage! That means they probably didn't read a lot as well.
For very long time I didn't want to read or watch it as I had the same opinion as Lanyare do(I still do). However, after listening the conversation at work I changed my mind as they were so thrilled about it - I thought maby there is something in it...
Well, maby it is nice to go back to you teenager dreams about love and some feelings...there is something enjoyable in it (maby the curiousity what else stupid Meyer will introduce to readers?) and I probably will read till the end anyway...but...
I was so dissapointed after reading it - probably I am really to old for that as well. I am also very dissapointed that the mature woman with good education has such a style of writing - as a teenage girl (long time ago I use to write similar things with my teenage friends). Main characters are quite dull and stupis - Bella is so useles most of time..I use to say she should introduce dragons there and the Witcher at the end to slaughter all beasts;)
I wish also they could choose better(more handsome)actors to the movie...
Anyway, I would admit it is better that they want to read at all - reading always broadens mind and creativity...just keep you brain open and find more ideas than Meyer did.

After all, Pattinson as a Bilbo?

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I found out Meyer has an English degree. Doesn't leave me with a very good impression of Brigham Young University. :p I know many authors who never went to university at all, or studied something other than English, who can write much much better.

I do have to agree with you, Sowen, that it's good there's anything out there that the youth actually wishes to read. My two brothers and I, we very much like reading and even have more or less the same taste in books.
My sister on the other hand, doesn't like it at all. She claims she can't concentrate enough to enjoy it. But when I was out shopping with her not even very long ago, she mentioned to me that she was curious for those Twilight books. MY sister, who I'd never expect to consider reading any novel, is contemplatint to read Twilight. That is something I'll encourage, regardless of my own opinions about it.
I don't know, maybe, just maybe, I could afterwards convince her to read about real vampires.
