I have an idea that throws our current traditions to the wind. Why not split the movie into two parts. The exception to our current traditions would be, for the first movie, start with all of the credits. Then in the middle of the story (I am thinking either the spiders or the cave of Gollum (can't remember which came first at the moment)) when Bilbo puts on the ring and disappears, the film ends. No credits, nothing but a black screen. The second film on the other hand, starts exactly where the first let off. Only the title, "A Peter Jackson Film" and directed by Guillermo Del Toro will be displayed. Then at the end, a very animated credit sequence with an easter egg in the middle, as well as one at the end. That way every true fan will stay to see the credits.
Ultimate 'cliffhanger', with a single uninterrupted movie in the middle. Double the fun. Double the studio profits, double the awards, double the times we get to cosplay, etc.
What do you think?
