There are now "discussions" about it, apparently - though who knows if they will ever come to anything.

I'd still prefer them to make an original 2D movie, if only because it'd be more in line with the Trilogy.
But I guess, since there have been quite some 3D-movies turned out to be a big success, money's talking. And THAT is a pity, really. :(

That's the way I've felt for quite a while, too: it should match the trilogy, and if 3D wasn't needed then there's no reason it is now. It should match the trilogy. Hopefully Guillermo del Toro will come to the same decision, since nothing has been decided yet.

New news report: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/03/17/35632-weta-planning-on-3-d-hobbit-says-insider/

It's quite possibly not true, since plenty of similar false reports have come out in the past, and I really hope that's the case. I'm skeptical about the 3D thing in the first place, but much more so if it means not filming until "at least" October. :(

I sincerely hope it's a false rumour... But, if it should prove to be true, I guess I was right when I said that money's talking... Judging from the tone of the article, at least. :(

Yeah. :( I'm still pretty confused, though, because since then TORn has posted another article that says the shoot was pushed to July. But I'm not sure whether to believe that either, because the BBC article they link as a source says "The second [film] will be an original story focusing on the 60 years between the book and the beginning of the Rings trilogy." And we know that idea has been scrapped.

All we can do is sit back, relax and wait for the information to slowly creep into our view. Then we POUNCE and never let it go! PRECIOUS WILL BE OURS! OURS!

Hehe, I think I might just sit back and wait until the movies are actually released, and let myself be surprised when I go see them. That's the only way to finally know for sure what they've made of it, after all.

Soo I was looking at theonering, everyones favorite news source, and came across this article... http://www.deadline.com/print-post/?posttoprint=29283&KeepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=500&width=750

*sighs*

I really don't know what to say except that I will just have to do as Sam says, and sit back and hope for the best as the information slowly trickles out...

*Sighs*

You know, it truly IS a pity that a decision like this concerning The Hobbit, will be grossly influenced by the money factor. I'm not saying that I wouldn't like 3D at all, but I don't really want The Hobbit in 3D.

Well, I would say they have no choice to do or not to do it in 3D. The market demands changes and they will have to respond to it. I am courious about 3d Hobbit and LOTR generally. However, I hope it will be choice and we still will be able to see it in old way.
I prefer the old way anyway, because 3d still neeeds a lot of improvment. But many people will come to the cinema not only because of Hobbit itself but to see the 3D effects (like me to see Avatar).

I definitely agree that the Hobbit should match the rest of the trilogy, which didn't need 3D. Also, I doubt I'm the only one, but 3D movies give me huge headaches. I have wonky vision to start with, but the 3D really messes with my head. Here's hoping that they stick with conventional 2D, even though I doubt it with the current trend in movies.

We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose. There is still some chance it'll be made in 2D, I think - and even if it is in 3D, I'm sure some theaters will play it in 2D (as happened with Avatar).

However, I hope it will be choice and we still will be able to see it in old way.
Wouldn't it be visible, though, that the movie's actually originally intended for 3D? Just by the way some scenes are filmed? I don't really have anything against 3D, but for uniformity's sake, I truly hope they'll be 2D. I can't help it, but it needs to fit with the other movies if you ask me. Even when considering that the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are indeed written in a totally different style.
