Any thoughts on this? Seemed like a probably-false rumor to me initially, but who knows. It would explain why he dropped out of Burke and Hare.

I didnt even think of him! He's a brilliant actor and if anyone ever saw Doctor Who they would agree his personality of acting suits Bilbo.

Well, no one has denied this yet, anyway. :) When the Tobey Maguire rumor was going around it was retracted pretty quickly.

He made a great Spiderman, but I simply cannot see him as Bilbo.

Tobey did make Spiderman his own but I couldn't see him in anything else, I have watched movies with him in and all that I think is 'when is he going to pull shirt apart and show his spider symbol'.

I agree that it wouldn't have worked, and I didn't believe it when it was first talked about because the people behind The Hobbit have more sense than that.

Actually, I don't even remember thinking he was that great in Spiderman. Although it's been quite a few years since I saw any of the films so I may have a different opinion of I watched one of them again.
