Article here (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6982297.ece)

I remember Peter Jackson talking about the possibility of doing this a while ago, and the only really new thing from the article is this:
Last week technicians at Weta, the production company that had worked on the trilogy, said they had experimented with 3-D battle scenes and proclaimed them to be “gob-smacking”. It's kind of unclear whether this is confirmed, or they're just speculating, but I would personally be pretty excited to watch the original movies again in 3D! And I know that it's a bit hypocritical of me, because I'm against the idea of the Hobbit movies being in 3D.

They say by this summer there will be 3D TVs on sale, I wouldn't mind watching this in 3D again. I have it in every format except blu-ray haha

Hmm... I'm not sure at all if I like the idea, to be perfectly honest. Somehow, I think the 3D will only work if the movie is actually designed for 3D from the very beginning.

I have no idea how this works. I'm with Lanyare in that I didn't know you could make a non-3D movie suddenly 3D, and I'm not sure how well it'll work if they try. I'd be interested in seeing an example, though. For me 3D seems like such a novelty - I think it would be fun to watch LOTR in 3D on an Imax or something, but probably also exhausting and headache inducing. Still, I also love watching it with five friends smushed together on a bed in the dorm staring intently at someone's laptop screen. <3

I'm not completely sure how it works either. I Googled some things and found this video (http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1813626064?bctid=32481581001) which explains at least one way of doing it (not sure if they have more advanced methods by now).

I suppose I wouldn't like the idea if I thought that the result would be inferior to a movie that was designed in 3d from the beginning - which may be the case, since I've never actually seen a converted movie - but that wasn't the impression I got, given that they'd be adjusting each scene manually and spending $10 million or so to do it.

Hehe, forgot to say this, but, knowing myself, I'll probably watch it at least once anyways, since it's Lord of the Rings. I'd just be too curious and not able to help myself. :p
