I'm a couple days late with posting this, but there was an article on BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8375280.stm) in which Peter Jackson stated that the Hobbit movies won't be in 3D. I think it was the right decision.

It also mentions that he's been doing location scouting. :)

Aaah, it's a relief to read this one. I really don't have anything against 3D but it really wouldn't have fit The Hobbit.
Which I also liked to read, is that there would be continuity between the LotR and the Hobbit. It's something I had been wondering about when I first heard Peter Jackson was not going to direct it himself.
Not that I mind it's Del Toro, but a director has a very big influence on what the movie is going to look like. And no two personalities are the same, so I was a tad bit afraid there would be a lot of difference.

I agree with Lanyare, yeah 3D is somthing different but to have it pasted on every new movie that is out now is just boring. I have nothing against it but I perfer the old way.

It's a bit like old-fashioned animated movies versus Pixar and other computer-generated animations... I do miss the old-fashioned animations a bit, these days. Most new animated movies are entirely computer-generated. I do like them, as well, but I'd prefer the old-fashioned way to not disappear either. :)

That's a good analogy about animation techniques. I like some of the stop-motion films (Wallace & Gromit, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline) more than anything I've seen done digitally, and I imagine for some movies, 2D will always be a better choice than 3D (even when the 3D technology gets much better).

There are plenty of black and white films (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_post-1960s_films_in_black-and-white) still being made.

"The only thing I get annoyed about is the image being a little dull.
"It does feel like you're looking at the movie with sunglasses on. But literally, that could just be about getting brighter bulbs in the projectors."
I agree with Peter Jackson about this. I'm going to prefer 2D movies at least until it stops feeling like you're wearing sunglasses.
