Mae govannen, everyone, well met.

My name is Lanyare, or Penelope, and I'm from Belgium. I've been a fan of both the books and the movie for a while now (books longer, off course, lol), but as I read somewhere else on this site, many forums are very very quiet. Hopefully, by joining this site, I will get to make a couple of new friends and everything, and be able to rant about Lord of the Rings, since my Ranger (aka my boyfriend) is just tired of it.

Let's, see, what more could I possibly tell you all? I'm a bookwurm, have a fairly eccentric, but also very varied, musical taste, I love fantasy and appreciate a sniff of Sci-Fi and horror as well. I'm the eldest of four kids (have two brothers and one sister) and my Ranger and I share our house with four cool cats. Their names are Luna (grey tiger, female), Lómin (black female, Lómin means Shadow), Rúnya (longhaired reddish male, his name means Red Flame) and our latest addition, Rána (Wanderer, but the term is also used to indicate the Moon).

I'm not very good at these introductions, lol, but ask if there's anything else you'd like to know.
Looking forward to getting to know you!

Welcome, Lanyare! Glad you decided to join. :) This site actually hasn't been terribly active over the past couple of months, to be honest - I think a lot of people got busy - but I'm sure things will pick up once there's some more news about the Hobbit movies for us to discuss, and I hope you stick around until then. If you have any suggestions for the site feel free to PM me.

So you like fantasy books? What are your favorites?

Hennaid Emmy... I noticed there hasn't been much activity off late, but as you say, hopefully it will pick up again when the Hobbit movie comes closer and everything. It's the same at the One, really... Not totally dead over there just yet, luckily, but nowhere near what it used to be.

One of the reasons I decided to join here after all. With things so quiet at the One as well, I have a little more time to spare for an extra forum. I do prefer to be able to actually be active when I join somewhere. ;)

You've done a great job on this site by the way. It definitely looks neat. The newer version of vbulletin does seem to have a few interesting possibilities as well. Wish we were able to upgrade at the One as well but apparently it's fairly risky to lose stuff.

As for my favourite fantasy authors... Tolkien off course, but also Robert Jordan, Tad Williams, Katherine Kerr and Robin Hobb. Do have to complete lots of series still... Trying to do that now in a more stuctured way by going alphabetically through my current 'collection'.

Yeah, vBulletin 3 does have some features that I've grown attached to. :) Actually, vBulletin 4 will probably be out in the next few months, and that's why I haven't done very many site updates for a while; it seems somewhat pointless when I'll just have to do it over for vB4.

I like Tad Williams too... I've read Shadowmarch and Shadowplay, and I recently started on The Dragonbone Chair. And I've read a bit of Robin Hobb.

I've never read anything by Katherine Kerr. If I wanted to try one, what do you think would be a good book to start with?

I haven't even read Shadowmarch, nor Shadowplay, myself... I did read the entire Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series, of which The Dragonbone Chair is the first one. Very much liked it. The first book I ever read by Tad Williams was Tailchaser's Song... It's fantasy with cats as characters. I adore cats, so it was definitely a fun read. His 'Otherland' series is awesome as well, though I haven't finished it just yet.

As for Katherine Kerr, I've only read one series so far and that was the epid Deverry series... But I very much liked the series and I'm most definitely going to buy the other series that are related to it, as well.
The first part of the Deverry series is called Daggerspell.

At the moment, I'm reading Thea Beckman... She was a Dutch author and actually wrote adolescent books. I really enjoyed her books more than a decade ago, when I was around 14 years. Rereading them now is great. Youth sentiment lol.

Welcome! :) Nice to have you here. I am one of the people emmie mentioned who got busy... but I do try to check in every few days, and as she said I will be around more when there's some news to discuss

Hey hey, Mithril, nice to meet you. I'm most definitely looking forward for some news as well, I can hardly wait for the movies to come out! Hopefully they'll be at least as good as Lord of the Rings was.

Hello again everyone.... Have been a bit scarce because I was buys with packing my stuff and everything. But now that I have moved, and now that I have internet again, I'm back. Unpacking will be slightly more slow-going process. Going to take it easy there lol.

Welcome back! :) I've been busy with classes and other miscellaneous things myself, but I still try to stop by as frequently as possible.

It's also starting to feel a bit as though we've already discussed all the news as much as we can, and we haven't had any really new news in a long time. Hopefully soon.

Thanks a bunch everyone! Still don't have a lot of time to myself, though. Haven't even played Lotro a lot since the move, either.

Hehe, Emmie... We should find some other Hobbit-related things to discuss then, perhaps, besides news.

Ah well... The next couple of days I won't be stopping by either. Going to Oxford for a couple of days. :D

Haha, definitely. :) Of course, it seems like we've done a good bit of that as well, but I'm sure there are always new topics to talk about.

Yay, back again from an absolutely awesome trip. We sat in what used to be the back room of the Eagle and Child, at the very same spot where The Inklings used to gather. It's just a pity his houses are not open for visitors, really... Would have loved to see how he actually lived.
